APPALOOSA Movie 2007 Viggo Mortensen

APPALOOSA Base Camp South of Santa Fe New Mexico.
Thank you Nancy Ann interiordesign101.com DaFlikkers.blogspot.com

NANCY ANN

The truck and trailers in the background with several
windows, was the self contained 'trailer restrooms' at Base Camp. The tent to the right of the truck, with the low profile mountain in the background was our 'extras holding', where we waited and ate after 'signing in' for the days work 'on set'.

The white van was our 'ride' to 'The Set' of Appaloosa.
White trailer just to the right, contained catering supplies. The tent just over Viggo's head is where the 'Principles and Crew dined. During days when 'Background' was limited, we were Welcomed and dined there on the great feast. Somewhat nicer than our regular meals of course.

The trailers to the right were used by
the 'Principles' for wardrobe change and
their make-up rituals. Sometimes a brand
'Star Coach' is used. Usually they are 'fifth wheel'
types, and towed by diesel trucks, to the Base Camps.

VIGGO MORTENSEN 'Hitch' playing soccer wearing Spurs, Backicks? with crew and 'background' as he did often at our Base Camp of 'APPALOOSA' during filming near Santa Fe NM Nov 02 2007. interiordesign101.com Thank you Nancy Ann....'Blogengeezer'

Are these the only players in this game? Did the townspeople of 'Appaloosa' play soccer in 1880? Can he jump and kick wearing spurs? Is this a soccer player wearing his spurs? or the Appaloosa Deputy Marshall playing soccer? Check back for possibly another surprise from; "Nancy Ann, 'The Doctors Wife' She cut off their tails with a carving knife" Oh wait that is from another little song/story long ago. Does anyone still recall the words to that? Just exactly what do they mean?

Very interesting, I have been watching the world 'hits' on Da Flikkers for an hour now after posting this photo, Japan has been leading the pack. They pass on the word faster, I guess. It isn't even dawn there yet. Japan must have early risers. Interesting that it has been the one and two hit readers. The bigger Viggo fan clubs have not yet found this latest 'birds nest on the ground'. Japan has been doing it with their individual readers for the most part. Good job Japan, keep it up. I'll go find more fun stuff from our 'background' friends in 'holding', The Viggo ride to APPALOOSA is not ended quite yet. How does that quote go about?

"From the Embers...and something about..His job is to Tend the Fire and he is satisfied with that"
    great quotes from Viggo Mortensen?

Have fun world, lifes short, enjoy it. I'll keep stiring the embers.

The word is "Ashes" not embers, I just ran by Viggo-works and checked it out. Japan you are a bit ahead of the UK for now. (you have control of second place behind the US which is understandable. Of course the UK is still asleep. You have all day to build a good lead so that you can rest tonight. Sweet Dreams US.

OH OH, a 'heavy hitter' in the US just found Nancy Ann's photo of Viggo Mortensen playing soccer with his spurs on, and spread the word with the email icon.
    Paul Revere's spirit lives on.
I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Man, this is so much fun, Da Geezer may stay up all night.

Poor UK, they are sound asleep while Japan trounces them.
Blogengeezer will republish the stats (like on the comments below the previous post) tomorrow or Monday to see who's ahead. There is always a chance for a 'long shot' 'dark horse' to be in the final running. Canada is no slouch. Isn't this exciting?

YAY! And I like the comedians who DON'T curse the best too! ;-)

Things are often slow on the weekends, Blogengeezer, so expect that count to start jumping again tomorrow! :-) I found this photo on www.allthingsviggo.com . I'm sure it will be posted on Viggo's http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001557/board/threads/ and Appaloosa's http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800308/board/threads/ IMDb pages as well! It will probably end up at www.viggoville.com and on the greatest website catalog of Viggo information for many years, www.viggophile.net, better known now as "Obsession", (appropriate name, eh?

Hope you and yours are doing well! :-)

    Hey Da Geezer,
Really enjoy reading your accounting of life in Appaloosa. Just wanted to correct one thing. The animal used was not a bobcat, but a cougar whose name is Casey or KC or Kasey.

    3:29 PM
    Blogger Blogengeezer said...

Thanks for the correction Traveler. The Carpenter never saw it. The Train 'background' thought it was a bobcat. I like both and see tracks of both, when I hike in the Sandia Mountains where I lived for a time. They are to the Southwest of the movie set on the far horizon.

A question or two...we've seen pictures of Viggo for a while now with his goatee, but his hair is on the "short" side. In the picture you posted, it doesn't look like he is wearing a wig. Can you tell us if he wears a wig for this role, or is his hair just as we've seen it?
Are you told the whole "story" of the movie before you start filming, or do you just get a "background" for the scene you are in?

    6:44 PM
    Blogger Blogengeezer said...

Hitch's hair isn't very long in the filming sequences. We were not told anything but the scene (#116) we were doing. Sometimes Rebecca would read the days script to us. 'Amazon' Elizabeth was reading the book to us for some scenes. She actually lives in the Amazon as a medical assistant. She is seen on the porch with shorter Carol during the entry scene we last worked on. 'Nancy Ann' (now famous picture) was the doctors wife, walking with the doctor in the street as 'Hitch' walks toward the front steps of Bragg's Boston House.

World Readers, I am still amazed at the continued response to Da Flikkers. Although the hits have understandably fallen off after the initial excitement, The fact that the interest even remains is truly appreciated.

Japan is still one of the heaviest hitters. The UK is still heavily interested, thank's Brit's, 'The Carpenter' was born there, read his 'characters' story, as well as Nancy Ann's 'Character', soon on this site.

The Uk is followed in overall hit's by Canada, Australia, 'Good on Ya Mates', and Germany. What intrigues me is that France, Italy, Czech Republic, China even Bulgaria seems interested along with many more, much appreciated Nationalities.

We really are of 'One World', no other solar systems or galaxies have responded yet, I watch for their ISP's of course.

The newest monthly Go Stats list will be posted soon. I will be interested in seeing any changes. The single hits are still coming in heavy.

A 'dark horse' may be coming from within the pack, coming out of the 'backstretch'. This is the 28Th of November, your 'horses' are now rounding the last turn and coming into the 'homestretch'. It's getting exciting.

The entire crowd is rising to their feet. They are wildly cheering 'the field'. Check back as they cross the finish line, in this latest race, at 'The Downs' in Albuquerque New Mexico.

You have driven the total count to over 11,474 as of this morning, quite amazing for a very small 'Family' category, 18 month old blog, Of which you, 'readers' have driven to #15 among thousands, registered on Go Stats.

The return visitors are what also intrigue this author. Apparently there remains an interest. Blogengeezer will post another interesting item from Nancy Ann soon, but probably not quite as fascinating as Nancy Ann's last picture, that you have made famous all over the world. That one is hard to beat by any standards.

Thank you World Readers, you are the greatest. 'Blogengeezer' is extremely grateful for those of you that are still posting 'links' to; http://daflikkers.blogspot.com/

When I told of a close race, I had no idea it would come out like this. Italy came from behind to an amazing position, tied with the UK, much higher in the pack than expected. Japan came in above Canada, which was surprising considering the translation difference. Also look at the 3 way tie between Canada, France, and Denmark. Germany, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Switzerland, and Belgium, were in a very surprising 5 way tie. The Netherlands and Australia also tied. Refer back to the previous post with stats from last month to see the changes that took place. World readers, you are truly incredible. This is the 1st hours of the month and things can change rapidly.

Ah yes, the old 'Beatles' song "Oym Enerry the 8th oy am". His daughter, Bloody Mary, ("apples don't fall far from the tree") sounds like someone we have running for President in 2008?

I read that many small printers and scribes sent out small easily concealed 'news' (papers) during those times by writing 'rhymes' as code so that the authoritarians could not decipher what the 'street' people were talking about. It continued through the second world war as the Jews were being persecuted throughout Europe.

    8:20 AM
    Blogger Suzanne said...

It wouldnt surprise me if that happened (coded rhymes). A lot of it went on in paintings too.

Some rhymes just reflect social times- for example 'Ring a ring of roses, a pocket full of posies, Atishoo, atishoo, we all fall down' is about the epidemics of plague over here in the 17th century. There is one small village near me called Eyam where they isolated themselves from the outside world to stop the spread of plague. Most of them died. So sad. This is a link if you are interested ..http://www.britainexpress.com/villages/eyam.htm

Suzanne, thank you for the links to the interesting history of England. That's where The ship Captain, 'The Carpenter' was born.
My favorite fiction 'based on history' books, are about the Royal Navy. Master and Commander started me and I have been hooked for quite some time now.

About the interesting link, the little village of Eyam lost over 3/4th's of it's population but the Quarantine prevented the spread of the 17th century plague to the immediate area outside. Good move.

I wonder if it would ever work today when the time comes. I suspect that 'political correctness' would prevent it being implemented, thus ensuring that whatever 'plague' arose, it would be devastating?

    Hiya

Long time no speak.. Suzanne from Appaloosa days. Ive just been to see the film - was it you I saw there fixing the sign above the hotel!!
Re; "No Suzanne, I was on the ground holding the ladder, they only let the insured crew do 'the stunts"

As a Brit I have to say I enjoyed the film - but it wasnt so much a western ( cowboys, indians, mexicans, bank robber etcetc) to me, more a buddy movie/romance with a twist which just happened to be set in the Wild West. You can so tell Jeremy Irons and Timothy Spall are English, although their acting was good. Who was the woman with Viggo? They seemed to get on very well on screen!

Anyway a thumbs up from me!

Re; from Blogengeezer, the woman is Renee Zellweger. I miss the old westerns as much as you do Suzanne. The atmosphere in the USA today (Politically Correct) is such that no one (Indians, Mexicans or Cowboys?) can be portrayed as above or below any one else. The old westerns are the last of the great ones. Kind of like showing the old film 'ZULU' on prime time? :>) Thank you for returning to Da Flikkers. Hope to have more flims in the works soon. Cheers Lovey!

Yes, there was a group of you fixing the sign and you were the one standing with the ladder! It must be great fun to see yourself on scren and not have to worry about the publicity and oscar nominations!

ps I didnt mean Renee - who I thought had a tough time with her character-she said there was no background to work on, so I guess she had to wing it. No I meant the other one- who played a whore....

well I keep an eye on your blog even if I dont post, but just thought I'd tell you I thought I saw you up there on the screen, all the way over the pond!!

    I just saw it.

First of all, the theatre was PACKED!

    Very good, very good movie!

It is a wonderful adaptation of Robert B. Parker's novel. True to the story in every way. I really liked it and am looking forward to seeing it again!

I listened to what Allie had to say in the room before the big shootout. I think it's the truest thing ever said. And should have been said in many westerns prior to this. As a whole, I thought Renee Zellweger's character was portrayed and written even better than it was in the book.

When she said those words, I thought, "Gee, they are finally 'humanizing' us. We aren't perfect, we aren't derelict either, we are just human." This is the first step to true, social equality!" SQUEEEEEEE!!!!

It is obvious to me that Ed really loved this book. He has said so in interviews, but it's obvious from the movie. I thought he did a GREAT job (as did Robert Knott) adapting the book to the screen and portraying the essence of very complicated characters, and providing action and tension, within a two hour time frame.

    GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!!

It has been 4 years since we filmed Appaloosa. Japan has suffered a major calamity. Elizabeth Gabel has had a few other projects. The film industry in New Mexico is on the rocks. The financially distressed state is re-considering the lavish taxpayer funded payouts that returned far less than 'dreamers of the arts' reported. Temporary jobs are Not the bedrock of society.

Interestingly enough, the number of hits to this site, coming from around the world, has still been noteworthy. They are approaching 60,000. Not bad for a little family blog with NO gratuitious sex, which a vocal portion of the Hollywood Idol driven USA is shamefully obsessed with.

Interest is still very high in Conservative family values. It is fun to re-read of our days 'on set'. Thank you World for your continued interest. We have worked on several less noteable TV projects, and maybe more films will come up in the future. Thank all of you again :>)
