SUNSPOTS MAY BE THE REAL CAUSE

I recieved the 'following' article in an email and left it intact.

The mud at the bottom of British Columbia fjords reveals that solar output drives climate change - and that we should prepare now for dangerous global 'Cooling'
R. TIMOTHY PATTERSON, Financial Post
Published: Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Politicians and environmentalists these days convey the impression that climate-change research is an exceptionally dull field with little left to discover. We are assured by everyone from David Suzuki to Al Gore to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that "the science is settled." At the recent G8 summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel even attempted to convince world leaders to play God by restricting carbon-dioxide emissions to a level that would magically limit the rise in world temperatures to 2C.

The fact that science is many years away from properly understanding global climate doesn't seem to bother our leaders at all. Inviting testimony only from those who don't question political orthodoxy on the issue, parliamentarians are charging ahead with the impossible and expensive goal of "stopping global climate change." Liberal MP Ralph Goodale's June 11 House of Commons assertion that Parliament should have "a real good discussion about the potential for carbon capture and sequestration in dealing with carbon dioxide, which has tremendous potential for improving the climate, not only here in Canada but around the world," would be humorous were he, and even the current government, not deadly serious about devoting vast resources to this hopeless crusade.

Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago, it was about 3C warmer than now. Ten thousand years ago, while the world was coming out of the thou-sand-year-long "Younger Dryas" cold episode, temperatures rose as much as 6C in a decade -- 100 times faster than the past century's 0.6C warming that has so upset environmentalists.

Climate-change research is now literally exploding with new findings. Since the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, the field has had more research than in all previous years combined and the discoveries are completely shattering the myths. For example, I and the first-class scientists I work with are consistently finding excellent correlations between the regular fluctuations in the brightness of the sun and earthly climate. This is not surprising. The sun and the stars are the ultimate source of all energy on the planet.

My interest in the current climate-change debate was triggered in 1998, when I was funded by a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council strategic project grant to determine if there were regular cycles in West Coast fish productivity. As a result of wide swings in the populations of anchovies, herring and other commercially important West Coast fish stock, fisheries managers were having a very difficult time establishing appropriate fishing quotas. One season there would be abundant stock and broad harvesting would be acceptable; the very next year the fisheries would collapse. No one really knew why or how to predict the future health of this crucially important resource.

Although climate was suspected to play a significant role in marine productivity, only since the beginning of the 20th century have accurate fishing and temperature records been kept in this region of the northeast Pacific. We needed indicators of fish productivity over thousands of years to see whether there were recurring cycles in populations and what phenomena may be driving the changes.

My research team began to collect and analyze core samples from the bottom of deep Western Canadian fjords. The regions in which we chose to conduct our research, Effingham Inlet on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, and in 2001, sounds in the Belize-Seymour Inlet complex on the mainland coast of British Columbia, were perfect for this sort of work. The topography of these fjords is such that they contain deep basins that are subject to little water transfer from the open ocean and so water near the bottom is relatively stagnant and very low in oxygen content. As a consequence, the floors of these basins are mostly lifeless and sediment layers build up year after year, undisturbed over millennia.

Using various coring technologies, we have been able to collect more than 5,000 years' worth of mud in these basins, with the oldest layers coming from a depth of about 11 metres below the fjord floor. Clearly visible in our mud cores are annual changes that record the different seasons: corresponding to the cool, rainy winter seasons, we see dark layers composed mostly of dirt washed into the fjord from the land; in the warm summer months we see abundant fossilized fish scales and diatoms (the most common form of phytoplankton, or single-celled ocean plants) that have fallen to the fjord floor from nutrient-rich surface waters. In years when warm summers dominated climate in the region, we clearly see far thicker layers of diatoms and fish scales than we do in cooler years. Ours is one of the highest-quality climate records available anywhere today and in it we see obvious confirmation that natural climate change can be dramatic. For example, in the middle of a 62-year slice of the record at about 4,400 years ago, there was a shift in climate in only a couple of seasons from warm, dry and sunny conditions to one that was mostly cold and rainy for several decades.

Using computers to conduct what is referred to as a "time series analysis" on the colouration and thickness of the annual layers, we have discovered repeated cycles in marine productivity in this, a region larger than Europe. Specifically, we find a very strong and consistent 11-year cycle throughout the whole record in the sediments and diatom remains. This correlates closely to the well-known 11-year "Schwabe" sunspot cycle, during which the output of the sun varies by about 0.1%. Sunspots, violent storms on the surface of the sun, have the effect of increasing solar output, so, by counting the spots visible on the surface of our star, we have an indirect measure of its varying brightness. Such records have been kept for many centuries and match very well with the changes in marine productivity we are observing.

In the sediment, diatom and fish-scale records, we also see longer period cycles, all correlating closely with other well-known regular solar variations. In particular, we see marine productivity cycles that match well with the sun's 75-90-year "Gleissberg Cycle," the 200-500-year "Suess Cycle" and the 1,100-1,500-year "Bond Cycle." The strength of these cycles is seen to vary over time, fading in and out over the millennia. The variation in the sun's brightness over these longer cycles may be many times greater in magnitude than that measured over the short Schwabe cycle and so are seen to impact marine productivity even more significantly.

Our finding of a direct correlation between variations in the brightness of the sun and earthly climate indicators (called "proxies") is not unique. Hundreds of other studies, using proxies from tree rings in Russia's Kola Peninsula to water levels of the Nile, show exactly the same thing: The sun appears to drive climate change.

However, there was a problem. Despite this clear and repeated correlation, the measured variations in incoming solar energy were, on their own, not sufficient to cause the climate changes we have observed in our proxies. In addition, even though the sun is brighter now than at any time in the past 8,000 years, the increase in direct solar input is not calculated to be sufficient to cause the past century's modest warming on its own. There had to be an amplifier of some sort for the sun to be a primary driver of climate change.

Indeed, that is precisely what has been discovered. In a series of groundbreaking scientific papers starting in 2002, Veizer, Shaviv, Carslaw, and most recently Svensmark et al., have collectively demonstrated that as the output of the sun varies, and with it, our star's protective solar wind, varying amounts of galactic cosmic rays from deep space are able to enter our solar system and penetrate the Earth's atmosphere. These cosmic rays enhance cloud formation which, overall, has a cooling effect on the planet. When the sun's energy output is greater, not only does the Earth warm slightly due to direct solar heating, but the stronger solar wind generated during these "high sun" periods blocks many of the cosmic rays from entering our atmosphere. Cloud cover decreases and the Earth warms still more.

The opposite occurs when the sun is less bright. More cosmic rays are able to get through to Earth's atmosphere, more clouds form, and the planet cools more than would otherwise be the case due to direct solar effects alone. This is precisely what happened from the middle of the 17th century into the early 18th century, when the solar energy input to our atmosphere, as indicated by the number of sunspots, was at a minimum and the planet was stuck in the Little Ice Age. These new findings suggest that changes in the output of the sun caused the most recent climate change. By comparison, CO2 variations show little correlation with our planet's climate on long, medium and even short time scales.

In some fields the science is indeed "settled." For example, plate tectonics, once highly controversial, is now so well-established that we rarely see papers on the subject at all. But the science of global climate change is still in its infancy, with many thousands of papers published every year. In a 2003 poll conducted by German environmental researchers Dennis Bray and Hans von Storch, two-thirds of more than 530 climate scientists from 27 countries surveyed did not believe that "the current state of scientific knowledge is developed well enough to allow for a reasonable assessment of the effects of greenhouse gases." About half of those polled stated that the science of climate change was not sufficiently settled to pass the issue over to policymakers at all.

Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments. It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada. As a country at the northern limit to agriculture in the world, it would take very little cooling to destroy much of our food crops, while a warming would only require that we adopt farming techniques practiced to the south of us.

Meantime, we need to continue research into this, the most complex field of science ever tackled, and immediately halt wasted expenditures on the King Canute-like task of "stopping climate change."

The following additiional highlights are from an article in the popular magazine, 'Discover' 'Science Technology and the Future', July 2007, found on the newsstands or on-line. Marion Long interviewed 'HENRIK SVENSMARK', (mentioned by name in the previous article) Director of 'The Center for Sun Climate Research' at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen Denmark.

HENRIK SVENSMARK, a Physicist, refers to these studies as 'Cosmo-climatology' in reference to the positioning of our Solar System in an arm of our Galaxy.
HENRIK SVENSMARK was intrigued by the 1991 studies of 100 years related to the 'Sun Spot' activity recorded and compared to the available 100 year recorded world climate changes. EIGIL FIN-CHRISTENSEN and KNUD LASSE CHRISTENSEN.

HENRIK SVENSMARK theorizes, after much on going and future below ground Lab research, (Ion Isolation) that "A high level of Solar Activity, (Solar Flares) Suppresses the flow of 'Cosmic Rays' striking Earths atmosphere, could result in 'FEWER' Clouds and a 'WARMER' Planet. The Sun has been in a 'High Activity' state throughout recent history. The president of 'CARLSBERG BEER' is one of the financial sources for this study due to his scientific background and innate curiosity. Pretty good Beer, from what I understand, care to discuss this over a 'Brewsky'?

This research shows a correlation back hundreds of years. If you have read the previous article BRITISH COLUMBIA Fjord research, the record is back into the thousands of years. The GRISDA.org studies are based on even very reliable human written records. Historical 'Shipping Manifests' showing the trade of produce from Northern Europe during the History of Climate Change in 'The Old World'. 'English Friars' (Friar Tuck?) selling their wine (the original English Pub owners?) during a much warmer period to other countries further south? 'Greenland' actually 'Green'? The fabled 'NORTHWEST PASSAGE' actually open?
Quote;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/northwest_passage
"Around the time of the Viking Sagas and for at least two more centuries (a conservative interval from 1000–1200 AD that also happens to include the dates allotted to some of the larger Norse ships), prior to the 'Little Ice Age' the climate was not only warmer, but the sea-level in the Arctic was also quite different from that of the present day.[7] Between the glacial rebound and global cooling, land levels of the land masses about the Northwest Passage have risen upwards to the order of 20 m in the centuries after the Viking times".

Recent history cycles, 400 years cooler followed by 400 years warmer, the Northwest Passage, which the 'VIKINGS' heard rumors of from the 'Inuit', was closed up tighter than a 'tick' around the year 1600. Lots of ships learned that the hard way. (see the wiki link. Note the dates of the exploration ships)
See my right sidebar link to research on 'Global Warming' including more links.

HENRIK SVENSMARKS new Book "THE CHILLING STARS" A New Theory of Climate Change, has an opening quote from EUGENE PARKER, the Astrophysicist that discovered the existence of The 'SOLAR WIND'.
"Global Warming has become a Political Issue both in Government and the Scientific Community, the Scientific Lines have been drawn by Eminent Scientists and an 'Important' new idea is an Unwelcome Intruder, it upsets the established 'Orthodoxy'.

I have watched recently, an Iranian woman news reporter (safely in another country) doing an interview with a prominent radical Jihad advocating Mullah in Iran on a TV link. As she quoted fact after fact about the absolute violence of Islam, the Mullah kept shouting "Blasphemy Blasphemy" (Heresy Heresy)

I lately see a definite link in the mindsets of both the radical Jihad advocating Mullahs and the Global Warming Advocates. If you can't debate the issues just shout down the opposing viewpoint, or advocate POLITICALLY MOTIVATED laws to 'silence' their discussion.

Red Mountain Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado

Southern Colorado high country is one of the main tourist destinations for the 'Well traveled Internationals'. The language spoken is often Scandinavian, French, German, Italian, and other mainly European, including any other adventure seeking people of the World. Of course USA even allows it's own citizens to visit Colorado for the outstanding mountain panoramas, high peaks, beautiful valleys, and of course the fantastic Engineering Marvels that allow everyone access, The gravity defying mountain highways called 'The Passes'.

After our last trip to Durango Colorado (we travel here often), we just had to return again due to the endless sights including prolific Deer, Elk and other wildlife.

Durango

  • This trip in the Motor home with Jeep in tow, included a 3 night stay at the Alpen Rose RV park
  • a few minutes drive North of Durango, just past the 'glider park' but on the left (west) side of the highway. The site is in a green grassy valley and we parked under the large trees near the well staffed office. The people that run this RV park are some of the nicest that we have encountered on our travels. Steve on his golf cart, directed us into our site. The Durango Rio Grande railroad runs nearby several times daily on it's way to Silverton.

Alpen Rose RV park even called us back (very rare) to ask if we were going to stay with them after I asked about amenities during the last trip to the area a couple of weeks ago. Breakfast, 'all you care to eat' for 7 dollars (2007), was served at 8 AM until 10 AM. My wife mentioned that they may have more breakfast guests if they started at 7am. Kids enjoy this setting, due to the horses to feed after a day in the swimming pool along side the well maintained grassy playgrounds. Steve endlessly moved the watering system to keep it that way, he puts many miles on his golf cart each day.

The 'Bar D Wranglers' with their old cowboy music and excellent Bar B Q supper are not to be missed. The 'Riders In the Sky' western group performs with the Wranglers at times, so call for reservations. Cy Scarborough started the Bar D over 25 years ago and still performs nightly.

Comedy and lots of 'Pickin and Singin' are the fare including some fine and fast served chuck wagon food. Nice family entertainment to pass away the evening in the Animas River valley north of Durango about 10 minutes drive. Bar D was almost lost to the mountain forest fires. Only the dedication of countless fire fighters saved this historic facility.

Rafting, Kayaking, and watersports are always actions to be enjoyed along the river through Durango, as well as others in Colorado. Call for sceduled 'Water Weeks', 'Bicycle Weeks' and many other 'special event' weeks alloted throughout the seasons. Don't forget winter, it's one big 'Snowfest' with world class skiing.

The numerous downtown Durango restaurants are each unique and the Brews at the 'Barley Exchange' downstairs on main street are countless. Don't miss the 1800's ambiance in the 'Diamond Belle' at the Strater Hotel. Don't miss their 'Melodrama'. The General Palmer Hotel with it's antique elevator and furnished rooms are 'must see'. All of this attractive ambience is enjoyed often by the countless hundreds of Motorcycle riders seen on every trip.

    Victory

  • 'Victory' Motorcycles, made here in the USA/Canada, using every modern high technology innovation available, to provide excellent reliability, even the 6 quart oil capacity that lubricates the transmission as well as the '100 inch' displacement 'V' twin engine, while providing excellent oil cooling. Unlike the 'left heavy' Harley Davidson, the Victory is neutral balanced with its silent running toothed flat drive belt system on the right.

Recognizable is the heavy Purr, '180 degree' crank sound, similar to the big 'rice burners'. 100 horsepower at the rear wheel and a weight of less than 600 pounds makes this a very fast, great handling 'Ride' starting at $15,000 dollars US. Victory had their latest rally here in Durango, lots of leather clad riders seeking the mountain riding excitement and good times together.

Silverton, another old mining town is 50 miles North of Durango over 'Molas Pass' and 'Coal Bank' pass, the very fit bicycle riders actually beat the train. A great ride, sometimes along side the Narrow gauge Steam powered 'Rio Grande' Rail system. Tourists enjoy the scenic trip, but both ways on the rails are a long day, as Mom mentioned years ago. She preferred the bus one way when available, like the Chama NM Narrow gauge Steam train rail system, which she also enjoyed.

Leaving Silverton toward Ouray, the next 23 miles of driving fun starts as you progress up the beginning North bound ramp of many switchbacks to get over the famous 'Red Mountain Pass' (over 11,000 feet altitude). This highway has no sissy guard rails to prevent you from driving over the edge into the canyons far below.

Just a 5 inch white painted line between your right wheels and several hundred yard drops over the edges on a gravity powered wild ride. I watched the cable winched retrieval of one unrecognizable car that took the 'dive'. Ice and winter/spring is 'Special' with unpredictable Avalanches adding to the fun.

Keep your drivers eyes on the road while the passengers describe the fantastic mountains and valleys in every direction. Speeding in Colorado, especially the passes, is often monitored by high flying aircraft. Teams of Colorado Highway Patrol are waiting further down the highway for the descriptions of the cars. Fines are expensive. Got to pay for that airplane and it's hours.

This highway has to be endlessly maintained by dumping thousands of tons of ballast rock over the edge and down the steep slope to hold the pavement on the side of the mountain. Some years even that fails, and they lose a portion of highway, only to rebuild for the next season. During repairs, the lane gets really narrow and very scary with the passenger leaning out the window and watching the wheels to make sure the driver stays at least 5 inches from the edge while clearing the oncoming traffic side mirrors.

    Million Dollar Highway

  • The so called 'Million Dollar Highway', referred to the cost per mile, to build in the 1920's. Today the brochures also mention the value of the 'Ore' used as ballast rock and the dynamited Cut Away rock to allow passage around the shear vertical face of a high gorge.

A memorial is placed commemorating several victims of 'The Riverside Slide' (CW McCall), Snow Plow Drivers
  • sacrificed over the years, including a Preacher with his two young daughters (Oct 1963). They were killed by one of the frequent snow Avalanches to hit these areas. Buried under hundreds of tons of ice and snow, they find them only in the spring melt. A concrete snow shed and the ski patrols firing a Howitzer cannon up into the high elevation snowpack to knock it loose, helps drivers to survive in these spots. Left over winter snow is still plentiful in the high country year around.

    Ouray

  • Ouray Colorado is referred to as the 'Switzerland of America' due to it's scenic location among the many high peaks. The streets in this old mining town are sloped to aid in the runoff of the 'gully washer' type rains that throw rocks, debris and trees over the high canyon waterfalls above the town. Box Canyon waterfall is a great short side tour with a nice hiking trail. Watch for the fat chipmunks.

Our lunch was a Pita and Lamb wrap at one of the many little interesting shops that provide a time of relaxation with contemplation. A natural hot spring feeds the huge local swimming pool north of town near one RV park. Jeep rentals keep a family that likes to get 'up close and personal' with the high altitude old mining areas nestled up among the mountain peaks, very busy. A drive to the 'Camp Bird' mine is unforgettable, especially during a storm. Black Bear Pass is farther up the mountain.

Telluride is a few minutes by air but many hours by 4X4 trail ride away over the famous (C.W. McCall song) Black Bear Pass 'Road?
  • We tried it with a standard 4X4 Jeep Wrangler and it was not a success 15 years ago, probably worse now.

75 miles back to Durango over the 'Red Mountain', then Silverton, 'Molas', 'Coal Bank' passes brought us back to Durango. Retire to our RV park for the night after an excellent Beer Battered 'fish and chips' dinner at the Barley Exchange in downtown Durango, ended a fine side trip.

Up to the East from Durango to Lemon reservoir and the earthen Dam that holds it precariously in the high canyon, were Sheep herders with their old 4 wheeled, hand built, round topped, 'camp wagon' pulled by their very old truck. Today they are a rare sight. 2,000 sheep grazing and traveling the five to ten miles per day in search of high mountain grass to sustain them. Three men and a dog repeat the entire process all season in this rough mountain environment.

Valecita reservoir is nearby and a popular mountain cabin area for boating, fishing and relaxing away from city life. The big mountain forest fires of five years ago really covered a vast area that is now starting to 'regreen itself'. This series of huge fires ranged for many dozens of miles in every direction due to fuel overload caused by environmentally preferred 'suspended' logging and grazing.

The forest actually looks better, more pasture (Deer and Elk love it) and less densely loaded with combustible material after nature's 'Cleanup call'. Overload of fuel with no open pasture fire 'breaks', is definetly the cause of this past runaway conflagration. Aspen trees are starting again, which will be followed by pine some day, and the endless cycles will continue into the distant future.

The next area visited was Pagosa (Natural hot) Springs Colorado, East of Durango, where we parked the Motor home for two nights at an 'Ex' KOA campground. Great folks from Texas were the hard working managers. It included a fishing stream running past the sites, and peddle powered water craft to tour the pond. 'Boss Hog's' Bar B Q, west of town near Fairfield Pagosa, has a great lunch and evening menu. Early the next morning it was the drive over another famous (in song by C.W. McCall) Chicken Truck
  • driver excitement, on 'Wolfcreek Pass'.

    Wolf Creek Pass

  • The truck brake failure escape routes with their deep 'Kitty Litter' are very often used. The smell of burning brakes hangs heavy in the air due to drivers failing to use geared down engine braking. We often see large vehicles being towed into Pagosa Springs for repairs due to massive brake failure. Eight miles up and eight miles down the 7% grade over 10,000 feet altitude, takes a while at 20 to 40 Miles per hour with lots of first gear 5000 rpm, so We left the 28,000 pound Motor home rig back at Pagosa Springs this time to help extend it's useful life.

This days destination was to scout out the highly recommended 'Fun Valley' RV and cabin Park on the east side of Wolf Creek Pass. Super place to take the adventuresome granddaughters on a future trip. Hiking, Horseback riding, fishing, paddle boats, bicycle rides, nightly entertainment, snack shops, restaurant meals, hundreds of sites to park near the river and of course the endless scenery of southern Colorado's San Juan Mountains to keep every one interested.

Great fishing is the adult attraction most favored through this area around South Fork Colorado. Crede Colorado is north up the Rio Grande River through a beautiful mountain valley from South Fork. Try the canyon road in Creede, past the historic mines if your 'ride' is up to it. Northwest past Creede, is the highway over yet another scenic high mountain pass to the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Check out the seasonal waterfall on the turnout near the top of the high mesa.

The last day was a very familiar scenic drive towards home back in Albuquerque NM, South down through Chama NM (start of the narrow guage RR, north to San Antonio Colorado), past three reservoirs with public recreational amenities, past historic Santa Fe 60 miles north of ABQ NM.

The entire five day trip was five hundred miles with two hundred dollars ('07 prices) in motor home fuel. The Jeep racked up another few hundred miles. Money well spent for some of the very best, close to home adventure. Next time you get the urge to travel, visit the weak dollar USA. We have it all, even a piece of 'Switzerland'. Enjoy the Great USA, One Nation Under God, with Freedom for All.. We fight for it..

    Anti-Capitalism

During the greatest 'Free Market', Capital Investment Driven', 'World Economic Expansion' run ever seen in history, one in which the heavy equipment to help build massive new world infrastructure, is even in short supply. An Econonomic Boom that requires China to buy or even lease their needed heavy equipment from the USA. An Economic Boom so profound as to allow 'The People' of the developing world to enjoy a level of prosperity never before possible. A time of such prosperity and disposable income, that it allows Macau (China) to build a massive new Entertainment and Gambling infrastructure. An unprecidented 'Expansion' that has allowed every Nation that welcomes 'Free Enterprise' to flourish uninhibited by repressive, restrictive Laws and regulations.

Enter the dismal, alley lurking Leftist 'Illiberals' that are attempting to destroy the capital Driven economy that allows even 'them' to exist in unprecidented comfort here in the USA. Restrictive, punitive Laws and endless threats of Lawsuits piled on top of lawsuits piled upon endless 'Indictments', are eating like a Rabid Cancer at our own free enterprise system, driving the Capital investors 'Offshore' to get a quality return on their investments without giving most of it to the the 'Ambulance Chasing, 'Tort' Lawyers so prevalent in this USA that our 'Lifetime Professional Politicians' at every level are totally saturated with this diseased virus.

    http://www.overlawyered.com/
(The 67/54 million dollar 'pants' lawsuit meant to destroy a small 'legal' immigrants cleaning business and even more of the same, by a 'power crazed' US Lawyer/Politician)

A prosperity time, of which, the worlds Leftist 'Illiberals' see only a defeatist outlook that attempts to squash the Daylights out of this budding new 'World Investment Driven' order that is threatening their 'Gloom and Doom Old School' dominance.

"There You go Again" as the famous 'Communicator' Ronald Reagan was fond of saying whenever the 'Illiberal', 'bloviating', Media 'Dogs' present at his News conferences, fervently, desperately jerked at the ropes on their 'Spinning Wheels'.

    http://newsbusters.org/taxonomy/term/119

Ronald Reagen (President USA) and Margaret Thatcher (Prime Minister UK) dragged the Leftist, spitting, Hissing world into 'Globalization'.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commanding_Heights

Some of the latest 'Cause and Effect' Spin has resulted in the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon actually believing 'Alberto' Gore's Global Warming Derangement Syndrome, and saying that the reason for DARFUR being such a killing field, is because we have overheated the planet. (by idling and revving our Detroit made SUV's too long at the stoplights?)

No mention was made that the well financed, well armed, majority Government Islamists are executing the Christians at a prodigious rate, faster than the minority Christians can fight back. The 'file photo' used in some Main Stream Media to 'illustrate' the point, (desperately trying to give it credibility), showed people in long robes standing in sand. Ah yes, the same UN that gave comfort and rocket launching sites to the Islamist forces cowering among the citizens homes in Lebanon that 'rocketed' Israel last year. The same blue helmeted forces that are wholly endorsed and loved by the 'World Domination' Islamists.
The same UN that blames the USA for every evil in the world. The same UN who's primary financial supporter is the 'Capitalistic', 'evil' USA.
Ah Yes, such innocence, sweetness and light while helping the Islamists reduce pressure on the world population by wearing out AK-47's so that new ones may be ordered. Does Kalishnikov offer 'stock'? If so invest as fast as you can. Time may be running out, for some of the 'Investors' that is. That is of course, if you naively 'Buy Into' the Leftist Illiberals Garbage based total Nonsense.

    Josh Mandel Ohio Representative

Now this bit of creativity at $5 to $10 K is an interesting way to play with graphics.

Where it will lead is any ones guess. I see many uses for hobbyists, but mostly business professionals. Military planners should really like the flexibility. Popular Mechanics always has some new technology to report. This goes along nicely with the quick vid from the Minnesota professors, about the future growth in India and China as far as education is concerned. I really like the music.

    http://www.glumbert.com/media/shift

India and China DO 'NOT' have a Congress or top level Administration made up of lawyers. SCIENTISTS and ENGINEERS are the 'designers' (Deciders?) of their economy. The Legalistics Burdened USA has a growth in GDP that is usually not much more than the rate of inflation. In China and India the lack of Lawyers is probably the main reason that the growth in their GDP is 'Many times' their rate of inflation. As a matter of fact I believe China has a 'limit' on Lawyers. A 'BAG' limit, like in hunting season. Notice the little ATV from China that has been declared by 'our protectors' as 'Unsafe' in the USA. Chinas response...Use common sense, it's low priced, the rest of the world likes it just fine.

Now lets get busy. The 2008 US elections are coming around fast. The Professional Politicians are mostly Lawyers so lets see...what can we do?

    http://www.overlawyered.com/

Well one bright light at the end of the tunnel, to be followed by thousands more, is 29 year old Ohio State Representative JOSH MANDEL, the State of Ohio Representative that was fighting 'Insurgents' in Iraq just three years ago. Shortly after being 'Sworn in', JOSH MANDEL announced plans for a bill that would 'divest' the State of Ohio's sizable 'fund' packages, from investment plans with companies that do business with debt riddled IRAN.

At last a bright ray of 'common sense'. At last count, I believe at least 14 States are considering similar Bills. Now JOSH MANDEL has seen a 'Dysfunctional Society' at it's finest example. I predict that the massive numbers of United States troops that have cycled through, or are returning from that part of the world, closely if not 'directly' associated with 'Hell' on Earth, will totally reverse the 'Illiberal' direction of this temporarily lost USA. Read this "Raw Report from a Marine at the Front" These are the type of Military people that will change the course of our drifting society. The comments that follow it show the appreciation of the real citizens of the USA.

    http://patdollard.com/2007/06/15/raw-report-from-a-marine-airman-at-the-front/#comments

This is the most well educated, all volunteer, Military, the world has ever seen. They will bring back to the USA a wealth of first hand, common sense information about what does not work and more importantly, 'What Does Work' in directing Mankind. The 'Insurgents' have trained them to perfection. I can hardly wait to see them 'Replace' this old, despicable, obsolete 1960's generation of drug addled Illiberal professors that have turned our Halls of Higher Education into 'Institutions'. I can hardly wait for the 'Troops' to rebuild our Congress into a viable, intelligent system. I can hardly wait for our troops to slowly and deliberately dissolve our 'Tort' legal system. Time for our Brave Soldiers to take back America. Welcome home 'Troops'.

    Zimbabwe Inflation

Over 4,000% (7,500% by some estimates) and climbing faster and faster. The Wall Street Journal suggests that you not 'Chase' the big stock rally there. The higest inflation rate in todays world. (Post WWI Germany had One Million percent) Formerly the very successful nation of 'Rhodesia'. The location of the world famous 'Victoria Falls' on the 'Zambesi' River.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe

Most food in Zimbabwe now has to be imported and paid for with borrowed money. The nation can no longer support or even feed itself since the European farmers (Capitalists) were forced (killed) to give their land to 'THE PEOPLE'.... (Mugabe's closest supporters). 'Redistribution of Wealth', 'Agrarian Reform', 'Take from the Rich, give to the Poor', Whatever you want to call it, 'LIBERALISM'. It doesn't work folks. History proves that much. 'Robert Mugabe' destroyed and closed all dissenting News Media. CNN and BBC are banned from reporting from 'his' (self declared, President for life) country. Watching their reporting, I don't think they even realise that.

HIV/AIDS infecting well over 1/3 (conservative est) of the population. This nation of educated (by Liberals?) people chose to divest themselves of 'Capitalism'. Zimbabwe at one time was a major exporter of food and other agricultural products. Today meat is a rare delicacy. Mugabe used his North Korean (I see a connection here) trained military to ensure his presidency continues, by eliminating all opposition. 'KIA' (killed in action) comes to mind when referring to his dissident opposition.

B.M. (before Mugabe) the life expectancy was about 60 years of age. Now it is about 37 for men and 34 for women. Now 'that' is an improvement in living conditions. The people wanted change from the old European style government rule...boy did they get what they wanted...'Change'.

Now take into consideration Nicaragua's 'Hugo Chavez'. He is following the same exact path as Mugabe. The people of this world never learn. I guess that is why the world famous 'Kalishnikov AK-47' is used so effectively. To 'Spank' the people for never being satisfied and always blaming others for their own problems. When locked into 'full-auto-spank' what a glorious 'spanking' it delivers.

'Hugo Chavez' has succeeded in raising the inflation rate of Nicaragua to double digit. 'Hugo' is also building a new 'Kalishnikov' factory. His friend in Iran, 'Mahmoud Amadinejad' and his 'Mullahs' have also done the same things for their country. What is it about some of these guys? Do they see destruction of a working system as creative? Are they twisted beyond reality? Maybe they went past 'Inhaling'? They seem to like 'Hashish' do they not? I read that their old 'CEO' liked a little 'Hash' himself back a number of centurys ago. He also enjoyed the company of many ladies (young ones)

The USA is populated by a minority of people made from the same type of DNA as the 'leaders' I have just mentioned. They have been educated (Indoctrinated?) in our universities by the 60's professors that have also gone past 'inhaling'. They view the current system in the USA as 'suppressive' to their creativity. Their creativity of 'Destruction' is the way I see history telling their story.

The world is changing rapidly and mankind is trying a lot of experiments on it's own population. The main deciding factor of the future is going to be, was 'Malthus' onto something? 2050 is the target date for his theory at the current rate of population expansion. I don't think I will wait around to see if 'Malthus' was on track. Good luck. Get out, travel, see the World and of course the absolutely amazing, incomparable, Capitalist USA. It's getting late fast. Maintain life as 'A believer' and you will survive by 'Grace' alone. It works for me...

    Paris Hilton?

    More from 'ROBO' in LA-LA.
I had to go out of the office for about .5 hrs. The entire trip I have the radio on for the traffic news. Not one traffic report. Reporters and photographers and helicopters covering PARIS BIMBO. That's all that was on for .5 hrs. it's still going on as far as I know.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k66epna2Sss

    Now remember, this is
'The Mainstream Media' that gives you your opinions on George Bush, the war in Iraq, environmentalism, and anti-capitalism. These are the brilliant minds that call themselves "Progressives".
Does anyone have ANY intelligence in the media?

    Robo

Well she was kinda Weepy looking, just sitting there in the car, "It's not fair" she insists. "It's just not fair". Well Paris, if life was 'fair' you would look just like the rest of us 'Mud heads'. Blogengeezer

    USA 'Birdfeeder' 'Robo'

Last night on the way home the news radio was interviewing a psychologist and asked why the big names in the media get in trouble and go to jail. Her answer was because they are "rich".

Now my dilemma, aren't 71% of the crimes in this country committed by minorities because they are poor?

Let me see if I have this right, the 'Hollywierd' set is above the law because they are rich. The minorities are below? the law because they are poor. That means us middle class schmucks must 'Follow the Law' because we are neither rich nor poor.

What about individual responsibility? Have any of these so called 'experts' addressed "individual responsibility" regardless of wealth?

LA-LA City CAL. just forked over $500K of tax payers money to a minority, 'activist', law firm for a report on gang warfare. Don't know how many pages they produced but the Readers Digest version was the same old crud that "activists" have been harping on for years/generations. Not my fault, poor, no decent jobs (read jobs behind a desk paying 100K and requiring the IQ of an amoeba and maybe, just maybe, show up once in awhile).

Want a job? Go clean up New Orleans!

    "ROBO' from LA-LA California

This also came as an 'FW' through my Email.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.
Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous
flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started
building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the
table--everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean; they would dive
bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own
pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud; they sat on the feeder
and squawked and screamed all day and all night and sat on the feeder and
squawked when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took
down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up
their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be: quiet, serene, and no one
demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see--our government gives out free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an
automatic citizen. The illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments and housing
for families; Now you have to wait six hours to be seen by an emergency room
doctor; your child's second-grade class is behind other schools because
over half the class doesn't speak English; Corn Flakes now come in a
    bilingual box; I have to press "1" to hear my bank talk to me in English;
people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are 'squawking and screaming'
in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Definetly it's time for a 'New' government to take down the 'bird feeder'. What political party in their 'insanity' put it up anyway? Was that Lyndon Johnsons 'Great Society'? I sure don't remember it being 'up' in the fifties. If it was, it sure wasn't full.

    Durango Colorado USA

On Wednesday morning we picked up our three Granddaughters and loading them with a few days supplies and many little interesting thoughtful diversions given to them at intervals, by my wife, into the Motor Home. We headed North for Durango Colorado. It is located about 250 miles Northwest of Albuquerque New Mexico. The ride is through the 'Desolate' North Western New Mexico. That is using the biased, totally out of the loop, Eastern, Washington Post 'AP journalist' SRIDHAR PAPPU, 24 May 07 description of NM, of course.

We Westerners find it a very beautiful creation, with exotic scenery stretching from horizon to horizon. Other parts of the country are very confining to Western States people used to the wide open spaces. Vertical Lava cores of ancient volcanoes standing at over a thousand feet above the endless miles of valleys, stretching to the horizons, gives a panoramic view into the prehistoric past.

The vast open areas and large mountains are not blocked by trees, so the beautiful sky is seen as a 360 degree blue dome interspersed with distant clouds. We have driven through parts of the nation where the trees are thick on both sides of the road as to make it seem like you are driving through a green maze or tunnel. Not so in NM. NM has forests of course but they are scattered throughout the State on mountains and in river valleys.

The drive 20 miles North on I-25 leaving ABQ toward a sleepy, stagnant little town, turn West on hwy 44 to Bernalillo NM. That little town shows the results of endless years of Welfare and Government subsidies. Just a couple of miles to the West, along our hwy NM 44, is a vast section of free enterprise off to the south. That area is growing with leaps and bounds, new homes, schools and businesses. Rio Rancho NM extends ever farther across the hills leaving the little government subsidised town of Bernalillo to wallow in the dirt. Old families that have no ambition or incentive to develope their town has resulted in nothing happening other than the EBT card and the government subsidies.

If any person needs proof that Communism as well as Socialism does not work they only have to look as far as the government subsidised areas like this and the hundreds of miles on both sides of this highway, the 'INDIAN RESERVATIONS'. I have lived here for most of my life and the only 'happenings' are around the Las Vegas and Atlantic City franchised, 'Indian' Casinos and the towns and cities that allow a person to fail or succeed by their own enterprising skills.

Heading up and over the long hill to the Northwest toward another fine example of Government support is the little town of San Ysidro. 'Economic dead stop' is the way to describe it as well. Further up the beautiful new 4 lane highway which was at one time known as the deadliest 2 lane highway in the state, (NM 44), is a succession of great scenery and the remains of a prehistoric sea bed. Matter of fact most of NM was at one time the bottom of a shallow sea. Did you ever wonder what the bottom of the Ocean looks like? Check out the Western States.

Just South of 'Cuba' across the wide horizon to the South and West, is the set of Prehistoric remnants of Volcanoes I mentioned previously. Cabezon is the most prominent. It is accessable from a gravel road south of Cuba, leading southwest across the open terrain and back crosscountry to I-40. I and a friend ,climbed Cabezon as younger adventuresome men. The biggest heaviest Rattle Snake we ever saw and grabbed onto, tried to give us a shot of 'Venom' near Cabezon's base. If you do go there keep your eyes open for his decendants. (the rattlesnakes that is)

As you approach the next remote example of 'Cuba' NM, a similar 'Govt. subsidised' arrangement keeps it at the lowest common denominator. I sort of compare it to the 'Island of Cuba' in that respect. A few gas stations, 'El Brunos' newest restaurant, and a recent addition of Mc Donalds in a Shell station is the only Free Enterprise signs, of course always a liqour establishment or two, they always survive.

As the drive over the continental Divide continues, the altimeter reads over 7,000 feet and still climbing rapidly. The Motor home gets less fuel economy heading north on this highway for that reason.

Along the highway are the remains of many once lively and prosperous local 'Trading Posts'. 'Chaco Canyon' is world famous and the still unpaved access holds the traffic to a minumum. Years ago as a younger man, I worked and endlessly traveled this entire state as a tech rep for a major company. The once numerous 'trading posts' were the center of activity for the surrounding reservation residents. Their hand made jewelry, crafts and rugs were on display and in 'Pawn' vaults.

The shelves were stocked with groceries, supplies and clothing, wool and yarn, handmade rugs and crafts. Kerosene Fuel, gasoline and light vehicle maintenance, Of course also livestock, both to buy and sell. Unique but similar to many small stores in city centers across America today. The Trading Post system was used extensively as a 'bridge loan' for the surrounding citizens while waiting for the government 'wellfare check' to arrive, similar to 'pay day' loans and 'pawn shops' are today in major cities.

The despicable 'Liberal' 'Activists' of the past labeled this convenient local system as 'exploitation', using the Mainstream Media as their 'Bully Pulpit' along with their consort 'tort' lawyers. The localised systems were outlawed. Now the 'Res' citizens have to drive at minimum, one hundred miles one way, wasting expensive fuel, to use facilities similar in nature to the historic, locally convenient, 'trading posts'. Only now they are located in the distant large cities.

Now that was absolutely brilliant was it not? Politically 'Correct' is far from the terms actual meaning. 'INCORRECT' should be the word. These 'activists' are holding power across the USA today using their old standbys 'the Main Stream Media and their 'Tort' lawyers. How sick and ignorant this Politically Incorrect, Liberal (NOT) system is.

Another massive US government boondoggle called the 'NAPI' (Navajo Agricultural Production Industries) is located on top af a once barren dry mesa along HWY 44 South of Bloomfield, and grows vegetables, grain and hay (at an exorbitant cost), all to sell cheaper than the diverted river water (average use over '500 cubic feet' per second) to irrigate it. An engineering marvel, high pressure water system pumped from the valley far below, US government taxpayer, paid for and built during the 60's and 70's, endlessly Tax subsidised, 'NIIP'. (Navajo Indian Irrigation Project)

    http://www.usbr.gov/uc/water/rsvrs/ops/crsp_40_niip.html

As you drive past these endless miles of lush irrigated green in the middle of an arid desert on top of a high Mesa, you will be amazed at the enormity of this total government waste of Taxpayers dollars with no accounting of costs versus profits, (typical government accounting).

The next town is using some enterprenorial spirit and starting to develop motels and fast food restaurants. Bloomfield NM followed by the neighboring town of Aztec NM. Oil and Gas production from the San Juan Basin, as well as the immense surface coal reserves powering the Four Corners electrical generating stations, have supported these towns as well as the industrious Farmington NM, to the West. This area is known as the four corners for its point where the states of NM, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah come together. Shiprock NM (Shipwreck as we called it) shows the results of heavy Govt subsidy, the 'Res' of course.

Continuing North to the Colorado State line and into Durango Col, is more to the liking of Tree oriented folks. Durango nestles in a nice river valley and has been undergoing a building boom for the last five years. The new Super Walmart and Home Depo on the South end, is but one example. The town was built around mining and the the old 1800's steam powered narrow gauge railroad, (restored and running scheduled trips to Silverton) built by General Palmer of Civil War fame.

Downtown Durango is like taking a time capsule back to the days of Victorian hotels 'Saloons' (with piano players), Melodrama Theatre with vaudeville and Victorian businesses and homes being restored and built along with new tasteful Condominiums slowly marching in all directions. The only government checks here will not buy a person more than a few days food and lodging. Everybody has to work to live in this area, 'WHAT A CONCEPT'!

There is no way a family can just sit around and 'wait for the Check'. Now you can see the drastic difference in systems I am referring to. We stayed in the United Campground 3 miles North of Durango. I am sure it's days are numbered because the 'Condos' are going to be built on the prime real estate it sits on. The Animas River runs through the property as well as does the Narrow Gauge Railroad, which takes scheduled tours North to Silverton twice daily. This is bicycle tour paradise with mountain climbs to work the lungs and legs. The Iron Horse Classic brings cyclists from around the world. (they 'race' the train to silverton) Rafting and Kayaking are summer sports. Also excellent winter skiing. Free enterprise opportunities are evident every direction a person looks.

The 3 Granddaughters swam all day, fed the ponies, Watched the rented 'gliders' being towed to altitude by a retired 'crop duster', watched the 1800's restored Steam locomotives 'Iron Horse' pass by four times a day, rode the local scheduled 'Trolley' into town twice, visited the numerous litte shops. Evenings were spent sitting in their beds watching a video before falling asleep and just enjoying the stay away from the stress of home life in ABQ.

Away from parents telling them what to do and how to do it every day. The 'young ladies' all started advanced Summer School at the Alb Academy on June 4Th, so this was their last respite. Hopefully we can get them away to 'just be kids', at least one more time this summer. The three nights away from ABQ were just right as far as they were concerned. The ride home came too early for them but by Saturday afternoon we returned them to reality and their parents.
